Food Justice Meeting
In response to UPAS organizing, LA County Supervisor Hilda Solis proposed the Improving Supermarket Quality motion to the Board of Supervisors on July 16, 2019. As a result of the motion, the Department of Public Health has implemented a new training curriculum for all inspectors to address food quality issues, particularly identifying root causes of spoiled, expired, and moldy foods. They have created a new grocery store grade card that will now include the grade, as well as the phone number and a QR code with a website to report issues, all on the same card. Moreover, they added the ability to make complaints in grocery stores to the Public Works app! Now people can upload photos and comments and it will go straight to Environmental Health. Instructions for the app here.
